We have a Danube River Cruise booked for next year and I am looking into booking a River Cruise as a retirement gift for my brother. They are very lightly traveled and I know Gate One would be a good fit and they would be well taken care of. Very good deal for the money and like other tours the tour leader makes the trip great. Explore Nuremberg, an energetic city with a visible history, and discover the delights of Regensburg, one of Germany’s largest and best-preserved medieval cities. See the charm of the world-famous Christmas markets and explore the village of Durnstein, one of the prettiest towns on the Danube.

I think that if you pick the trip that fits what you like to do, you can't lose. I'm sorry I can't help you in comparison with the other companies because I haven't traveled with them, but if anyone would like to give me a trip... The group I was planning for said these cruises look like they were all "Food Oriented" and too much on schedules. So, they all backed out and now it's just me and my wife. See magnificent panoramic views of the Douro River and tour the Douro Museum to learn about the wine making industry of the area.

Fellow Passengers
Laura did a great job running the activities. All of the tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. I was very impressed with the punctuality of the group. It was nice to try food that was native to the culture we were touring. The only thing I would do is have the guide available in the courtesy lounge in Prague a few more hours or make sure that she announces that there are limited hours to meet with her. We thoroughly enjoyed our Danube River Cruise.
"Dry" Lunchtimes and Excursions
Both lines have walking tracks on the sun deck but do not carry a fleet of onboard bikes. Gate 1 has a more generous cancellation policy if you cancel closer to the time of sailing. There is only one dining room and you won't find a smaller alternative restaurant serving specialty fare, plus there is no light lunch option served in the lounge. If you're a cruiser who likes to switch things up at mealtimes, Gate 1 Travel is not a good fit.

Gate 1 Travel Reviews & Ratings
The Cruise Director and Activities Director Soma and Daniella were a credit to whomever hired them. They went out of their way not only to help, but to entertain and made all feel that we were part of a large close knit family. My thanks for providing an exceptional experience. I will recommend Gate One to anyone and most certainly come back.

As “old world” as Amsterdam feels, it’s Nijmegen that is Holland’s oldest city. And it enjoys a lovely setting on the Waal River. As you wander its charming streets, you are tracing 2,000 years of history. Both lines have a resident onboard pianist and musician who play at various times throughout the day. The Aquavit Terrace is a unique feature at the front of Viking's snub-nosed Longships and a lunchtime buffet is served here every day.
In the suites, the extra space is devoted to larger bathrooms and a bigger living area. There are marked differences in areas such as meals and the included beverage offering that reflect the price differential between Gate 1 and Viking. Viking includes wine, beer and soda with lunch and dinner and Gate 1 includes drinks with dinner only, plus the evening dinner menu is more limited. Gate 1 Travel offers fantastic value-for-money cruises that are often around $1,000 less expensive than similar itineraries along the same rivers.
It has been about 7.5 years since I traveled with Gate 1 Travel. In the past, customer service was exceptionally great! Now I am appauded with the unprofessional and... We have loved Gate 1 and always sing their praises. We've been on 7 tours with another one booked for fall.
It is the world's largest river cruise operator with a fleet of 70 ships, the majority of which make up its fleet of 190-passenger European Longships. It also has ships in Egypt and Asia and is launching its first ship on the Mississippi in 2023. Viking sails on the Danube, Rhine, Main, Rhone, Saone, Seine, Elbe, Douro, Nile, Mekong, and the waterways of Holland.
There are usually four of these per weeklong cruise and they can be booked in advance at a 10 percent discount or booked once onboard. The food was delicious and the crew was great. Our guides on our excursions were very knowledgeable and we enjoyed them. The recital in Vienna was beautiful. We will definitely be booking another trip with Gate 1.Thank you for all of your help. Our trip was absolutely wonderful and definitely up to the high Gate-1 standards.
Professional tour directors who lead each group are carefully selected for their extensive knowledge and attention to detail. River cruises include some of the same components, but instead of traveling via motorcoach and staying in hotels, you’ll move between cities and sleep aboard a well-appointed riverboat. Imagine unpacking your bag just once and settling in to your river ship cabin with an ever-changing view. You indulge in a generous array of amenities as Europe’s most charming villages, lush vineyards, bucolic landscapes, and vibrant cities are delivered to your door. Along the way, you indulge in three mouthwatering meals a day, savor local wine, and have a seasoned cruise director by your side to fill you in on the fascinating history and rich culture of thrilling ports.
Additionally, with its fleet of ocean ships it also offers a combined river and ocean vacation that cover the Rhine and Norwegian fjords. It was considerably more active than the river cruises. Maybe twice as much group walking and free time to do more. Also the PDs offered several "extras." One of ours was climbing the walls of Kotor - should have trained on the stair climber at the gym. There is an included early morning stretching class that is held either in the lounge or on the sun deck, and any onboard demonstrations and activities do not carry an extra charge.
